Reinstall your Operating System (OS)

If your OS has been on your computer for more than 6 - 12 months, it might be due for a re-install. No matter how careful you are about installing programs, defragging your computer, your computer WILL slow down. It's a sad reality. Some of the reasons for installing your computer are:

  • Your registry grows, esp. if you install and uninstall your application.
  • Legacy applications, even if you uninstall your application sometimes there are bits that remain, i.e. registration details, shared files, dll files, etc...
  • Running out of Hard Disk space? Or faster Hard Drives in the market. These are always great excuses to install a new OS
  • Viruses / Trojans if you suspect you have any of these you should do it immediately!
  • Service Pack upgrades. At the time of writing SP3 is about to be released, the service packs generally consolidate a lot of patches, instead of leaving smaller patches lying around on your system.
  • Ultimate defrag, there is only so much defrag can do, some system files can't be moved no matter what you try!
